Careers Advisor & Mentor

Accountable to

Head of Operations

Main Task

To provide excellent standards of careers advice, guidance, and mentoring to candidates.

Hours and Pay

Minimum 37 hours per week
Salary range £25,000 – £27,000 per year, depending on experience

Location

Hybrid – Office and remote

Driving Licence

Applicants must have a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (fuel costs reimbursed)

DBS Check

Enhanced DBS is required for the role

The Role

As a Careers Advisor and mentor, you will;

  • play a pivotal role in assisting individuals with past convictions in identifying and pursuing suitable career paths.
  • provide personalised guidance, support, and resources to help them overcome barriers and achieve their professional goals.
  • use your expertise and be instrumental in helping individuals rebuild their lives and contribute positively to society.


A high level of empathy is required throughout. We believe in a common sense, big hearted, yet fair approach to every aspect of our work.

The role is extremely fluid at times and no two days are the same.

Location

You must be comfortable with and have the ability to work from home or the office, with a willingness to manage your diary and caseload to suit.

One day you may be in a team meeting in the office and the next in a coffee shop or community centre meeting the people you are supporting or you may be working from home catching up on the admin side of the job or even at a prison jobs fair.

Requirements

  • Level 4 Qualification in Careers Advice and Guidance is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with individuals with past convictions or in re‑entry programmes is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of career development principles, vocational assessment tools, and job search techniques.
  • A good level of understanding of how to use Microsoft Outlook for email and diary management, Word and occasionally Excel.
  • Driving license and access to a vehicle.
  • Enhanced DBS (CSS will arrange this for the successful applicant)
  • An understanding of the Christian faith is highly desirable.
